Alexander Zverev has clinched his first title at the ATP 1000 Masters event in Paris after easing to a 6-2 6-2 straight sets win over home favourite, Ugo Humbert, on Sunday.
The win is the German’s 66th match win on the ATP tour this year – taking him past world number one Jannik Sinner – and moves him to second on the world rankings ahead French Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz.
Humbert had sent Alcaraz out of the Paris Masters earlier in the Round of 16, so Zverev was well aware he had to be on his A-game against the Frenchman in what was the fourth final apiece for both players this year.
Zverev’s seventh career ATP 1000 title serves as a morale-boost for Zverev going into the season-ending ATP Finals taking place from next weekend in Turin.
