Germany’s Oliver Zeidler claimed gold for the European nation in men’s rowing single sculls, becoming the first German to win gold in this competition since 1992.

The Bavarian-born star won the gold medal ahead of Yauheni Zalaty who finished second to claim the sliver medal while Simon van Dorp of the Netherlands completed the podium to win bronze.

“I felt super good as I went on to the last 500 metres. I didn’t feel any pain which is rare for a rowing race,” Ziedler said after a memorable victory.
