Courtney Williams led the scoring while 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Napheesa Collier, and Kayla McBride combined for 43 points against New York Liberty as the Minnesota Lynx came back from 18 points down to complete a dramatic 95-93 overtime win on Thursday night in New York.
It was the Liberty that came out hot at the start of Game 1 in this year’s WNBA Finals, closing the first quarter with a 13-point lead, which increased to 18 points with a little over six minutes to go in the second quarter.
From that point, the Lynx started to erase the lead, taking the second quarter by five points and the third by just one point to enter the final quarter seven points behind the home team.
Minnesota Lynx were able to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter, going on an unlikely streak to come from 15 points down with five minutes left on the clock to tie the game at 84-84 and send the game to overtime.
Williams proved a menace to the Liberty’s defence to push the Lynx ahead, while Collier’s fadeaway jumper put the visitors two points up with eight seconds to go. But the Liberty were unable to
