Italian fourth seed Jasmine Paolini was the biggest casualty on Day Three of Wimbledon, joining second seed Coco Gauff and third seed Jessica Pegula to bow out of the grass-court Grand Slam following a three-sets defeat to Kamilla Rakhimova on Wednesday.
The 2024 runner-up edged a tough opening set but struggled in the second and third sets as Rakhimova rallied in brilliant fashion to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and move into the third round at the All England Club in London.

Paolini’s defeat means that eight top 10 seeds across the men’s and women’s singles draws have been knocked out across the opening two days – the most at a Grand Slam in the Open era.
Meanwhile more seeds tumbled out as 12th seed Diana Shnaider, Brazilian 21st seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, Croatian 22nd seed Donna Vekic and Canadian 29th seed Leylah Fernandez all bowed out at SW 19.
