‘Whoever is in charge would have been gone’ – Mikel Obi on Enzo Maresca & Chelsea

Former Chelsea and Super Eagles star, John Mikel Obi, has declared that Enzo Maresca would have lost the job as Blues boss by now if the club were going through the current poor run of form in a different era.

Chelsea have lost back-to-back games against Brighton in the Premier League and FA Cup to compound a poor run that has seen Maresca’s team lose five of the last 10 matches in all competitions.

“That would have been a f**king crisis back in the day,” Mikel said on his Obi One podcast. “The helicopter would have been landed by now. Surely would have landed by now. And whoever is in charge would have been gone. The helicopter would have landed by now. There’s no two ways about it.“

Mikel later clarified he was not calling for Maresca’s sack, but was trying to point out what was going wrong at Stamford Bridge at the moment.

“I’m not calling for the sack of Enzo Maresca. I’m not. My issue is that what is going on is not right,” he said. ”I just think that the recruitment process at the summer, it wasn’t good enough, which I talked about.”
