Host nation France will compete for the gold medal in the men’s basketball event at the ongoing Olympic Games after coming out victorious from a semi-final battle against world champions, Germany.
It was the Germans, captained by Dennis Schroeder, that made a bright start, ending the first quarter with a 25-18 lead, before the French rallied in the second quarter to end the half level at 33 points apiece.
France edged the third quarter by four points before holding on in the fourth quarter to claim a 73-69 win as Germany threatened to snatch victory towards the end.
Wembanyama posted 11 points for Les Bleus while Guerschon Yabusele scored 17 points in the win for the hosts.
