Kaylia Nemour of Algeria wrote her name in Olympics history when she became the first ever African to win a medal in gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Games.

The 17-year-old claimed the gold medal in the women’s uneven bars event with a score of 15.700, securing Algeria’s first gold medal at the Olympics since the Seoul Games in 1988.

Nemour finished ahead of the reigning world champion, Qiu Qiyuan of China, who finished second with a score of 15.500.

Sunisa Lee of Team USA finished in third place to take home the bronze medal while defending Olympic champion, Belgium’s Nina Derwael, ended the competition in fourth place.
