Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe scored as Real Madrid won the first edition of the new-look FIFA Intercontinental Cup thanks to a 3-0 win over Pachuca of Mexico.

Mbappe put the European champions in front with their first shot on target after 37 minutes at the Lusail Stadium, the same ground in which he netted a hat-trick for France against Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.

A Jude Bellingham ball found Vinicius Jr., with the Brazilian, who was awarded the Men’s Player of the Year prize by FIFA The Best 24 hours earlier, showing great skill to lose his marker and square to Mbappe to score.

Rodrygo made it 2-0 early in the second half before and Vini got his name on the scoresheet with a penalty for Madrid’s third in the closing stages after Lucas Vazquez was fouled in the Pachuca box.
