Real Madrid have seen their La Liga title defence suffer a setback following a shock 2-1 loss at home to Umar Sadiq’s Valencia on Saturday in a match that also saw Vinicius Jr. see his penalty saved.
Los Blancos had a great chance to take the lead after being awarded a penalty when Kylian Mbappe was brought down in the box by Cesar Tarrega, only for Vini’s weak spot-kick to be saved by Valencia keeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili.
That penalty miss would come back to bite Madrid soon after, as Valencia found the breakthrough when Mouctar Diakhaby powered home a header off a corner kick from Andre Almeida in the 15th minute.

Vini made up for the penalty miss, though, when he levelled the scores from close range five minutes into the second half as the hosts came out strong in search of goals to turn the tie around in their favour.
Several half chances came the way of Los Blancos, and just when the Carlo Ancelotti’s side looked the likelier team to get a second goal, Valencia struck, deep in stoppage time.
Rafa Mir, who replaced Sadiq on the hour mark, put in a cross for Hugo Duro to head home from close range in the 95th minute and seal a famous win with his fifth goal in eight league matches against Real Madrid.
The result gives Valencia a first win at the Santiago Bernabeu since 2008, while Real Madrid could find themselves six points behind league leaders, Barcelona, who play Real Betis later on Saturday.
