Atletico Madrid on their part have now failed to go level on points with city rivals Real Madrid on the table and within four points of league leaders, Barcelona, who host Celta Vigo later on Saturday.
In other matches, Espanyol edged 10-man Getafe 1-0 while Leganes played out a goalless draw at Real Mallorca.
