Former heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, has announced his retirement from boxing in a brief video and all but puts an end to any chance of a match with Anthony Joshua.
“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” Fury said. “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask.”
Fury’s latest retirement from the sport comes almost three years after he retired in April 2022 following his win over Dillian Whyte.
Fury would return months later before suffering his only two defeats in his heavyweight career to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 – the latest of which was his last fight in December.
The 36-year-old, popularly known as the Gypsy King, ends his heavyweight career with a record of 34 wins, two losses and one draw. 24 of those wins came via knockout.
Just days ago, Anthony Joshua had stated that it would have to be this year if a fight between him and Fury was going to happen. With this announcement, though, it appears we’ll never see that fight.
