Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen is back in the eyes of two Premier League gianst after talks for his transfer from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain is reported to have fell through.
London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea could hijack Osimhen’s potential exit from San Paolo to the French Ligue 1 champions as PSG appear to have softened the pedal on their talks with Napoli.
The French side are interested in signing the Nigeria international but are not ready to meet Napoli’s valuation of the player. The 2023 Serie A champions have made their intention of wanting to sell the Super Eagles star this summer clear.
That intention has seen the Parisians stop talks with Napoli for Osimhen as the Italian side refuses to lower their asking price for the striker. Osimhen has a release clause in excess of £120 million which will make him the most expensive African player in history.
In Napoli’s view, Osimhen’s exit will then pave the way for the club to sign Romelu Lukaku as his replacement, reuniting the Belgium national team record goalscorer with Antonio Conte following their stint together at Chelsea.
25-year-old Osimhen, who’s yet to feature for Napoli this pre-season due to the transfer sage, has been in the news since the 2024 summer transfer window opened, but the clubs interested in him have yet to submit an official bid.
Arsenal and Chelsea also showed interest in Osimhen initially but stepped back on the deal after PSG led the race. However, the London rivals could still be the destination for the Nigeria international striker.
The Italian club are reportedly willing to explore the possibility of including Lukaku in a deal that would involve the Super Eagles star joining Chelsea this summer. If the Blues agree with Napoli’s proposition, the former Lille forward might join the English top flight ahead of the 2024-25 season.
