Liverpool right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is a major doubt for the Reds’ League Cup semi-final second-leg clash against Tottenham Hotspur due to a thigh injury and will have a scan to assess the problem.
The England international picked up the knock during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League over the weekend, and had to be replaced by Conor Bradley as a precaution.
Reds boss Arne Slot revealed after the game at the Vitality Stadium that Alexander-Arnold had requested to come off, in order to avoid aggravating the problem.
“The situation is he said to me that you have to take me off and he sat on the floor and we took him off,” Slot said. “He felt something, I can’t tell you exactly what it was and how bad it is as we are (talking now) only just after the game.”
Slot added, “But it’s never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution. It’s not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday. Let’s hope he is back with us as soon as possible.”
