Organisers of the annual Tour de France have announced that the 2026 edition will start in the city of Barcelona, Spain for the first time in the race’s 113-year history.

A team time-trial will mark the Tour’s opening on July 4, 2026, with riders going on a 19.7-kilometre course that features the famous Sagrada Família Cathedral and will finish at the stadium built for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games on Montjuïc hill.

The second stage will also end in front of the same stadium a day later, at the finish of a 178km ride along the Mediterranean coast.

This will be the third time the Tour de France has started in Spain, following San Sebastian in 1992 and Bilbao in 2023, while the Catalan capital has hosted Tour stages on three separate occasions (in 1957, 1965 and 2009).
