A late Lucas Bergvall strike has given Tottenham Hotspur the advantage over Liverpool after the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash in North London on Wednesday night.
Last time both teams met three days before Christmas 2024, Liverpool produced an attacking masterclass on their way to a 6-3 win in the Premier League.
There was no repeat of that this time, though, as Spurs held off the Reds despite losing midfielder, Rodrigo Bentancur to an apparent neck injury in the first half.
Indeed, it was Spurs that found the back of the net first with 10 minutes to go through Dominic Solanke, only for the goal to be struck off after VAR review ruled that the striker was offside.
Trent Alexander-Arnold then had a goal-bound effort cleared off the line, while Bergvall was given a yellow card although the Reds were feeling he should have been sent off for the foul.
That feeling was made clearer just two minutes later as Bergvall put Spurs ahead with his first goal for the club, prompting Liverpool coach Arne Slot to share some words with the fourth official.
Spurs held on for the win, though will be hoping to hear good news about their Uruguayan midfielder.
