FIFA have announced that Nigerian music star, Tems, will be in the United States to headline the live performance during the Club World Cup final half-time show at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey next month.
Tems, who is a part-owner of Major League Soccer outfit, San Diego FC, will headline the half-time show alongside American rapper, Doja Cat, and Colombian singer, J Balvin.
“The final half-time show will be curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to improve access to quality education,” FIFA revealed in a statement.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino added, “Together we are going to make history on a special occasion where football and music unites the world.”
J Balvin on his part expressed his pleasure at being called to perform at the show. “It’s a historic moment, for me, for Latin culture and for every kid who dreams big,” the Colombian pop star said.
FIFA will also work with international education and advocacy organisation Global Citizen as well as British rock band Coldplay for the show, which will hold on July 13.
All three artists have history with Global Citizen events. J Balvin previously appeared in three shows during the pandemic, Doja Cat headlined two live concerts while Tems performed on-stage in Accra in Ghana in 2022.
The expanded 32-team Club World Cup runs from June 14 to July 13 in the United States, with teams competing in 12 venues across 11 cities.
Inter Miami will square up against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the opening fixture on June 14 in Miami, while the final will host a half-time show like the Super Bowl for the first time.
