Teenager Wins China’s First Ever Olympic Medal in Cycling Event

Yawen Deng has made history on Wednesday after claiming the first ever medal for the People’s Republic of China in the BMX Cycling women’s freestyle at the ongoing 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The 18-year-old rider got off to a great start with a time of 92.50 in her first run, putting her in a comfortable leading position. Deng put the icing on the cake by making a time of 90.7 in her second run to top the final leaderboard with the two highest scores.

Perris Benegas of the United States of America claimed silver after her impressive showing with a time of 90.7 in her second run, while Australia’s Natalya Diehm completed the podium to record Australia’s first medal in this event at Paris 2024.
