16-year-old Rayssa Leal made Brazil Olympics history on Sunday by becoming the first to win two medals at the Olympics before turning 17. Rayssa added to her collection, having already secured a sliver medal in 2020.
The 16-year-old previously set a record when she became the youngest Brazilian ever to take part in the Olympic Games in her debut aged 13 years at the 2020 Games held in Tokyo.
Japan’s Liz Akama led for most of the final, jumping from last position to first between her first and second runs, before her Japanese counterpart, Coco Yoshizawa reclaimed dominance and win gold with her penultimate trick, recording a total score of 272.75.
Leal stepped up for her final run and subsequently secured third spot, giving her the bronze medal in Paris.
“It means a lot to me, not only for me, but for my team, for Brazil. We are happy. This is for Skateboarding,” wonderkid, Rayssa Leal said after her electric performance.
