Wojciech Szczesny has come out of retirement to sign for La Liga giants, Barcelona, in a deal that will run until the end of June 2025.
Szczesny joins the Spanish league leaders just over a month after announcing his retirement from football, with a season-ending injury suffered by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen leaving Barca no choice but to look for a capable free agent as replacement – cue Szczesny.
“I’m so proud to be at Barça and I’m ready for this challenge! [Robert] Lewandowski was the first person to call me last week,” the former Arsenal, AS Roma and Juventus goalkeeper said after sealing the deal.

He added, “It took some convincing. At the start I wasn’t sure I was ready, but my friends and family told me… if you don’t accept Barça proposal, you’re very stupid. I agree with them! This club is just fantastic.”
The goalkeeper was in the stands to watch his new team-mates take on Young Boys in the Champions League, and could make his debut in La Liga against Deportivo Alaves on Sunday.
