Nigeria’s women national team, the Super Falcons will get their campaign at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris underway on Thursday, July 25 with a tough opener against Brazil at Bordeaux Stadium in Bordeaux.

Super Falcons led by Randy Waldrum will compete from a potentially tough Group C, which also comprises women’s football powerhouses Japan and reigning world champions Spain.

Nigeria’s women’s football team is set to compete in the Olympics for the first time in 16 years and have confirmed the official squad and the squad numbers for the 22-woman team heading to Paris.

The Super Falcons qualified after edging past South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 1-0 on aggregate in the CAF Olympic Qualifying series back in April.

Nigeria is one of Africa’s two representatives in Paris, with Zambia completing a dramatic comeback to beat Morocco 3-2 on aggregate after extra time to grab the other ticket to the Olympic Games.

Ahead of the pulsating clash against the South American Samba girls, this marks the beginning of Nigeria’s quest for Olympic glory, as they aim to make a strong statement in their return to the global stage.

Despite the formidable opposition, the Super Falcons are eager to overcome the test and progress beyond the group stage, carrying the hopes of millions of Nigerians as they compete in this Olympic Games.

However, the general opinion is that Brazil are favourites in the game although considered to be on Nigeria’s level and the Falcons are battle-ready to prove their mettle.
