Fans were treated to an exciting goal fest between Sunshine Stars and Ikorodu City in a Nigeria Premier Football League match played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenna on Saturday.
Sunshine Stars took the lead after 16 minutes through Ahmadu Liman, with Promise Awosanmi doubling the Akure club’s advantage just five minutes later to leave Ikorodu City rattled midway through the first half.
Ikorodu City fell further behind as Alao Danlami made it 3-0 for the home side after 34 minutes, before Shola Adelani pulled a goal back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time in his debut for the Lagos club.
Adelani got his second of the game after being set up by Harrison Austin as the visitors started to regain their composure after the early onslaught endured in the first half from Sunshine Stars.
Just when it seemed the game was slipping from Sunshine’s control, Alao got his second of the game to give the home side a two-goal cushion in the 74th minute.
Emmanuel Solomon ensured a tense finale in Ikenne with a goal for the visitors three minutes into stoppage time for Ikorodu City, but the Stars held on to emerge victorious in the seven-goal thriller.
Elsewhere in the NPFL on Saturday, Abia Warriors got a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United thanks to a fourth-minute goal by Sunday Megwo, while Nasarawa United also claimed a 1-0 win at home to Katsina United.
