Teenage Chinese sharpshooter Sheng Lihao made history in the shooting sport by setting a new Olympic record of 252.2 to claim gold at the Paris 2024 Games, topping William Shaner’s of USA’s record at Tokyo 2020.
The 19-year-old, who is a world record holder in the sport, adds another medal to his already impressive collection, which includes 10m air riffle silver at the last Olympics in Tokyo.
“Very happy. I am really very, very happy. I think I can continue to improve and win more medals in the future,” Sheng said after being the first athlete to win two gold medals at this year’s edition.
Sweden’s Victor Lindgren, who is reigning world champion, secured the silver medal with a tally of 251.4 while Croatia’s Miran Maricic completed the podium with his bronze medal.
