Ruthless PSG Ease Past Inter Milan to Win Champions League Title

Paris Saint-Germain are champions of Europe for the first time after cruising to a 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday night.

Luis Enrique’s side started off on the front foot and duly broke the deadlock after 12 minutes when Joao Neves split the Inter defence open to find Desire Doue in the box, with the teenage attacker squaring for Achraf Hakimi to score against his old team.

By the 20th minute, PSG were 2-0 up as Doue went from provider to goalscorer, smashing a volley which deflected slightly off Federico Dimarco to leave Yann Sommer in the Inter goal wrongfooted.

The Ligue 1 remained rampant in search of more goals but Doue, Ousmane Dembele, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were unable to add to the tally as PSG went into the break content with the two-goal lead.

The Italians showed more life at the start of the second half, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma to action with rare attacking forays. But PSG soon gathered their composure to regain control of the game.

This would lead to Doue extending PSG’s lead just past the hour mark, running on to a through ball from Vitinha before nudging the ball past Sommer for his second of the night – effectively ending the contest.

Inter players may have been relieved to see Doue go off almost immediately after, but his replacement picked up from where the teenage sensation left off by tormenting the Inter defence. All that was missing was a goal from him.

Dembele would set Kvaratskhelia one-on-one with Sommer as the Georgian got the goal his night deserved to make it 4-0 after 73 minutes. Barcola then set up another substitute, Senny Mayulu, to score the fifth in the 86th minute as PSG ran away with the tie to win a first Champions League title.

PSG become the first French team to win a treble and the second to win the Champions League/European Cup after Olympique Marseille beat AC Milan in the 1993 final. PSG boss, Luis Enrique, also becomes the second manager to win a treble at two different clubs after Pep Guardiola.

The Ligue 1 champions are also the first team ever to win the Champions League by a five-goal margin, and the first team to score five in the final since 1963 when it was still known as the European Cup.
