Cristiano Ronaldo was on target as Portugal came from behind twice to play out a 2-2 draw with Spain in the UEFA Nations League final, before going ahead to win 5-3 on penalties and claim the title on Sunday in Munich, Germany.
Martin Zubimendi broke the deadlock for Spain midway through the first half when he poked home after Portugal failed to clear their lines properly, though Roberto Martinez’s men wasted no time getting back in the game when Nuno Mendes equalised just five minutes later.
Spain took the lead again on the stroke of halftime through Mikel Oyarzabal, who went round Ruben Dias before slotting home to have the defending champions go into the break in front.

Portugal came out of the break in search of a way back and thought they had gotten it when Bruno Fernandes struck, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Selecao did not have to wait long for the equaliser, though, as Ronaldo peeled away from Marc Cucurella to nudge a close-range volley past Unai Simon just past the hour mark. The 40-year-old Al Nassr star would later go off injured as the match went to extra-time.
Both teams failed to score any more goals, leading to penalties. Portugal and Spain scored their first three kicks before Alvaro Morata saw his penalty saved by Diogo Costa, leaving Ruben Neves to score the winning penalty and wrap up a second Nations League title for Portugal.
