Ronaldo, Portugal Fall via Penalties as France Advance to Euro 2024 semis

Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of helping Portugal to another European Championship title was brought to an end on Friday night as France edged out the 2016 champions 5-3 on penalties following a goalless 120 minutes in Munich.

Featuring an array of attacking talent, the encounter between the two European powerhouses was a close and tense one with each side careful not to the other too much room in front of goal.

And as the game petered out to the penalty shootout, Portugal fans were left disappointed as goalkeeper Diogo Costa, fresh from saving three penalty kicks against Slovenia in the Round of 16, failed to get a hand on any of the five spot kicks by Les Bleus.

Ronaldo on his part scored his kick, while it was Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix that failed to hit the target for Portugal as his spot kick hit the post, ensuring Didier Deschamps’ side sets up a mouthwatering semi-final clash against Spain.

That match will take place on July 9 at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Which team do you see winning the encounter? Spain with five wins from five games played so far at the competition, or France that has scored only three goals but conceded just one in five games?
