Gaming fans who have been eagerly anticipating the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto franchise, GTA VI, will need to wait just a bit longer after Rockstar Games announced the new release date for the game.
Previously scheduled for release in autumn of 2025, Rockstar revealed in a statement on its website that GTA VI will now be released May 26, 2026, adding that the goal is to try exceeding the expectations of gamers.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” Rockstar stated.
The GTA makers added, “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
It has been more than a decade since Rockstar released the hugely successful GTA V, which has since sold 210 million copies since its release in September 2013 and making it one of the highest selling games ever.
Rockstar previously released a teaser for GTA VI back in December 2023, with the plot set to follow Lucia in Vice City.
