England have secured back-to-back victories to start FIFA World Cup qualifying series on a high note following a 3-0 win over Latvia at Wembley on Monday night.
Thomas Tuchel made four changes to his starting XI for the visit of the 140th-ranked minnows, as the German tactician looked to build on the win against Albania last weekend.
The Three Lions dominated proceedings and had several attempts to score but lacked some cutting edge in front of goal. England also had a big shout for a penalty turned down by VAR after goalkeeper Krisjanis Zviedris bundled over Jarrod Bowen.
The Latvian number one also made a stunning reflex save to deny Ezri Konsa, but his resistance was broken in the 38th minute when Chelsea right-back Reece James curled home a stunning free-kick that left Zviedris rooted to the spot between the sticks.
England captain Harry Kane doubled the lead in the 68th minute with a tap-in from a Declan Rice pass, while Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze was rewarded when his mazy run and deflected shot made it 3-0 in the 76th minute.
Victory sees England stay top Group K with six points, after two wins from two matches. Only the group winners qualify automatically for next year’s World Cup which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
