In a surprising turn of events, Team Nigeria’s representative in the cycling events at the Olympic Games in Paris, Ese Ukpeseraye, suddenly found herself thankful to the German team for lending her a track bike.
According to Ukpeseraye in a post on social media, she received notification on short notice about competing at the Keirin and Sprint events but had no bicycle to line up for the event.
However, Team Germany came to her rescue by offering a bike for her to use. “Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin & Sprint, I had no bicycle to race with on the tracks,” Ukpeseraye wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
She added, “In (the) spirit of sportsmanship the German team came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle.”
Ukpeseraye already competed in the Women’s Road Race on Sunday although failed to finish that race.
Now, she will be a part of the competitors in the Women’s Sprint race on Friday… thanks to the German’s kindness.
