Antonio Rudiger’s header in extra-time has seen Real Madrid come from behind to play out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Real Sociedad to book a spot in the Copa Del Rey final on Tuesday night.
Los Blancos came into the clash leading 1-0 from the first leg played last month at the Reale Arena, and knew that a draw at the very least would be enough to see them through.
But it was the visitors who took the lead through Ander Barrenetxea in the 16th minute, before a lovely lob by Brazilian youngster, Endrick, levelled the score for Madrid 15 minutes later.
Things started to look gloom for Carlo Ancelotti’s side as goals by Pablo Marin and Mikel Oyarzabal – which both deflected in off defender David Alaba – gave Sociedad a 3-1 lead by the 80th minute and a 3-2 advantage on aggregate.
But Madrid hit right back as Jude Bellingham fired home a first-time effort from close-range in the 82nd minute, while Aurelien Tchouameni nodded home the equaliser on the night from a Rodrygo corner-kick four minutes later.
Just when it seemed that Madrid had done enough to win on aggregate, Sociedad scored three minutes into stoppage time through Oyarzabal, left unmarked to head home the Basque side’s fourth goal and send send the match to extra time.
During the extra 30 minutes, substitute Arda Guler lifted a corner into the area which was headed home by Rudiger as Madrid secured the equaliser and ultimately seal the win on aggregate.
Real Madrid will now await the winner of the second semi-final between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
