Xabi Alonso’s new era at Real Madrid continues as the La Liga giants are reportedly on high alert over rising Arsenal defender, Myles Lewis-Skelly, as talks over a new contract at the Gunners are said not to be going well.
The Guardian claims that negotiations between Arsenal and the left-back over a new deal are ‘not going well’ and Real Madrid are ‘sniffing around’ the situation with the teen sensation’s current deal set to expire in June 2026.
Lewis-Skelly has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past season, going from making his Arsenal debut to becoming a first-team regular and starring in the Champions League.
He has gone on to get his first cap with England, too. But the 18-year-old, who has received rave reviews in recent months, is clearly ambitious, and if the Gunners want to tie him down to a new deal, it needs to be a good offer.
Lewis-Skelly played much of his youth football as a central midfielder and can be utilised in attacking and defensive roles. But he has been a revelation since being deployed at left-back this season.
The teenager is one of many players Arsenal are trying to tie down to a new deal, including William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, and more. Whether he signs a new contract remains to be seen.
