Reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid face possible punishment from UEFA following homophobic chants by the club’s supporters aimed at Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.

The 15-time champions saw off the Premier League outfit 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Bernabeu, courtesy of a brilliant hat-trick by Kylian Mbappe to secure a 6-3 aggregate victory.

However, Spanish outlet Marca revealed that some fans began singing homophobic chants at Guardiola during the game, and the La Liga side may be subject to a punishment from UEFA in response.

The report claims that Madrid fans were heard chanting: “Oh, Guardiola, you look so thin. First it was the drugs. Today you can see it in Chueca.”

Chueca is an area in the centre of Madrid that is known as the Spanish city’s gay neighbourhood.

The Los Blancos fans then continued with chants mockingly asking Guardiola to stay at City despite their poor form this season, before a series of “oles” rang out across the Bernabeu.

In response to the chants, it is very possible that UEFA could launch an official investigation which could lead to Madrid being hit with a punishment ranging from a fine or even a stadium ban.
