Favour Ofili’s social media vent in which she revealed being omitted from the list of athletes to represent Team Nigeria in the women’s 100m at the Olympics has sparked reactions among sports lovers.
The 21-year-old ranted about the omission, pointing the blame at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and Nigeria Olympic Committee for dashing her ambition to win 100m gold in what is her Olympic debut.
While she hopes to compete for Team Nigeria in the 200m event, reactions have poured in regarding the controversy surrounding her impending absence from the 100m event in Paris.
When asked, “If you were not entered, why them would they include your name in the 100m in the list released by AFN?” Ofili in response stated, “This is part of some questions I don’t have answers to.”

Sports Journalist and Soccernet Managing Editor, Lolade Adewuyi expressed sadness at the development. “Really sad to hear this. Wishing you the best in your other events,” he posted on X. “An AFN that needed human support for starting blocks at the Olympic trials has too many metaphysical problems to handle.”
“This is just so heartbreaking. I’m so sorry you’re made to go through this,” Latifat Adebayo-Ohio wrote. Tunde Omotoye blamed the development on incompetence. “Incompetence and negligence at its peak. Who are the people really involved?????” he asked.
“Someone should [lose] their job for this but I’m not holding my breath. Proof once again that at any level Nigeria will always happen to you,” Nwandu wrote in response to Ofili’s post on X, adding “Hopefully they do the right thing for your 200m race.”
Another social media user, Victor Edeh chipped in, saying “Nigeria went with just 88 delegates (while China, India registered over 500 delegates) and still forgot to enter you? I think this is deliberate.”
