Nigeria Premier Football League has returned fully for the second half of the season, with Enugu Rangers suffering a surprise home loss to Niger Tornadoes while Sunshine Stars and Ikorodu City played out a seven-goal thriller in Akure.
Rangers missed the chance to go second on the NPFL log as Niger Tornadoes claimed a 2-1 win from the encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
It was the Minna-based club that opened the scoring through Ishmael Saraki after 17 minutes, but Collins Ugwueze scored Rangers’ goal midway through the first half to cancel out the opener.
Ifeanyi Okechukwu grabbed the winner for Tornadoes just after the hour mark, slamming into the roof of the net after being set up with a backheel pass at the edge of the Rangers area.
The home side got a lifeline to share the points after being awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, only for Chiedozie Okorie miss the spot-kick as Tornadoes held on for a crucial win on the road.
