Barcelona midfielder, Alexia Putellas, scored the only goal in a tightly contested encounter against the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the group C encounter at the Olympic Games on Sunday.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner’s stunning free-kick from long range caught goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie off her lines and proved to be the match-winner in the 85th minute.

Spain top group C with six points from their first two games and mathematically seal their place in the next round.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are on the brink of an early exit from this year’s edition after failing to pick up a point in the first two rounds of games.

Randy Waldrum’s team now needs an outright win against Japan in the last matchday and hope Spain defeat Brazil to keep their slim chances of remaining at the Olympics alive.
