Paris Saint-Germain have fallen to a first league defeat this season as a brace by Morgan Sanson hands OGC Nice a memorable 3-1 win over the French champions and boosts their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Luis Enrique’s team went into the encounter on Friday night with a 30-game unbeaten run, but were left frustrated by former goalkeeper, Marcin Bulka, who made 12 saves to keep the Ligue 1 leaders from going closer to breaking FC Nantes record of 32 games unbeaten in a league season.
Bulka denied Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue as PSG dominated the early exchanges, only to fall behind just past the half-hour mark when Badredine Bounani spotted Sanson’s run through PSG’s midfield and set up the Frenchman to put the visitors ahead.
That lead lasted only seven minutes as Dembele sent a brilliant ball to Fabian Ruiz, who nudged the ball just enough to send it past Bulka for the equaliser. PSG would fall behind again just after the break, though, as Jonathan Clauss’ cross was volleyed emphatically by Sanson past Gigi Donnarumma.
Sanson’s stunner sparked wave after wave of attack from PSG in search of another equaliser, but the visitors remained resolute in keeping the champions at bay, as Bulka enjoyed the game of his life at his old stomping ground.
Bulka’s heroics would be rewarded 20 minutes from time as Nice extended their lead through Youssouf Ndayishimiye, who rose highest to head home Bounani’s free-kick. PSG continued to threaten, but Nice stood firm to claim all three points from the Parc Des Princes.
The result is PSG’s first league loss since May 2024 and leaves Les Parisiens with just one win in their last four matches heading to the Champions League semi-final first leg at Arsenal on Tuesday night.
