Portugal midfield star Joao Neves has completed a move from Benfica to Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year contract for €60 million and €10 million in add-ons.
The 19-year-old has also arrived at the Parc Des Princes at the cost of Portuguese compatriot, Renato Sanches, who has moved to Benfica on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
“We are delighted to welcome João Neves to the Paris Saint-Germain family,” PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said in a statement on the club website.
He added, “João is one of most talented players in Portugal and internationally. He was so passionate to join Paris Saint-Germain and determined to fight for the jersey.”
On his part, Neves said, “I’m very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a very ambitious Club. I’m going to give my all to help my team-mates, to grow at this fantastic Club and to win numerous titles.”
The Benfica academy graduate enjoyed a breakout 2023/24 season for the Portuguese giants, earning a place in the Primera Liga’s Team of the Year and getting a call-up to Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad.
