The Premier League are set to issue disciplinary charges against top-flight teams deemed to have broken financial rules for the period between the 2021 and 2024 seasons.
Clubs in England’s top-flight will discover their fate on Tuesday, January 14, as the Premier League prepares to issue disciplinary charges against teams in breach of their financial rules.
As it stands, Leicester City appear the most likely to fall foul of the regulations having successfully appealed against sanctions last year, while Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United are set to be close to the brink.
Everton and Nottingham Forest have already felt the impact for breaking the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules – the Toffees were docked six and two points respectively for the previous two seasons, while Forest lost four points in the 2023/2024 season.
Charges handed out by the Premier League relate to the period between the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons, in which clubs are prohibited from recording losses of more than £105m – a figure which is reduced if a relegation occurred.
Clubs who recorded losses for the first two years of that period were forced to submit their accounts to the Premier League on the final day of 2024.
Following the league’s charges, teams will be given a 14-day window to appeal before an independent commission decides on what punishment will be handed out.
