Pep Guardiola Slams La Liga Chief Javier Tebas Over FFP Situation

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has taken a swipe at Javier Tebas, after the La Liga chief raised a complaint over the club’s Financial Fair Play situation.

The Cityzens are facing around 115 charges in relation to alleged breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) Rules, with a verdict on the matter expected in a matter of weeks.

Earlier in the week, a report revealed that La Liga boss Javier Tebas had submitted a complaint and the European Union (EU) were investigating case, after accusing City of trying to circumvent football’s FFP rules by hiding their costs in affiliated companies and likened the situation to the infamous Enron accounting scandal of 2001.

During a pre-match presser, Guardiola showed no interest in discussing Tebas’ comments, simply saying “next” three times when asked three different questions about the topic.

When asked whether Man City are a target for rivals, the Spanish tactician added: “I don’t know. It happened in the past with UEFA and in a few weeks, it’ll happen in the Premier League, the sentence [to the 115 charges], right? We wait, and after we talk.”

Manchester City’s FFP case concluded at the end of 2024, though it will be the subject of an appeal. If found guilty, the Cityzens could be given a fine, points deduction, transfer ban or expulsion from the Premier League.
