French wildcard, Lois Boisson, has reached the last eight at Roland Garros, after pulling off a shock win over Italian Open champion and third seed, Jessica Peluga, at the grand slam taking place in Paris.

22-year-old Boisson, ranked 361st heading into the French Open, came from a set down to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over the Italian, who was one of the pre-tournament favourites to reach the latter stages of the grand slam.

Proceedings were going Pegula’s way as the Italian won the first set with relative ease, before both players went toe to toe in the second.

Boisson kept her composure to get a crucial break in the second set and level the tie, and went on to break Pegula’s serve again at 4-4 in the third set on the way to sealing the win.

The 22-year-old becomes the lowest-ranked player to reach a major quarter-final since Kaia Kanepi did so at the 2017 US Open while ranked 418th in the world. Boisson will now meet highly-rated teenager, Mirra Andreeva, for a place in the last four.
