Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion’s goal in stoppage time proved to be mere consolation as the Young Pharoahs of Egypt beat Spain’s U23 side 2-1 in a tightly contested tie on Tuesday at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux.
The victory for Egypt sees the North African side finish top of Group C with seven points and book a place in the next round of the football competition at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
A goal in each half from winger, Ibrahim Adel, sealed the win for Rogerio Micale’s men while Omorodion – born in Spain to Nigerian parents – and his teammates settle for second spot with six points to advance to the quarter-final stage as well.
