McLaren driver Oscar Piastri continues to blaze the trail in the 2025 Formula One season after crossing the chequered flag first to claim the Miami Grand Prix and consolidate his lead on the drivers’ championship standings.
Piastri took advantage of Norris going wide when battling for the lead with Max Verstappen early in the race, before going past Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and eventually, the world champion, to win the race and hold off Norris who was 4.63 seconds behind in second place.
The win is Piastri’s third consecutive race win and fourth in total this season, having started fourth on the grid in Miami – further emphasising the superiority of the McLaren cars this season as other teams struggle to keep up.
World champion Verstappen started the race in pole position was left disappointed after missing out of podium place altogether, finishing just over two seconds behind George Russell of Mercedes while both drivers finished more than 30 seconds behind the papaya duo.
Alex Albon was an impressive fifth for Williams, ahead of Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in sixth, while the Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were seventh and eighth respectively having been involved in a lengthy team orders debate in the latter stages that saw Hamilton moved in front before the positions were later reversed.
Hamilton held onto eighth despite a late-race scrap with the Williams’ of Carlos Sainz, the Spaniard remaining in ninth following the incident that will be investigated after the race. Yuki Tsunoda, meanwhile, grabbed the final point on offer in P10 for Red Bull.
Isack Hadjar narrowly missed out in 11th, the Racing Bulls driver finishing ahead of Haas’ Esteban Ocon in 12th and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly in 13th. The latter, along with Sainz, will be investigated for a possible yellow flag infringement after the race.
