Japan’s Naomi Osaka is out of the 2025 French Open after the four-time major winner fell in three sets to 10th seed, Paula Badosa of Spain, in a first round match at Roland Garros on Monday.
Having won her first title in almost two years earlier this month, Osaka took the first set against Badosa in her quest to make the second round at the second grand slam of the year.
But the world number 49 was unable to maintain the momentum, as Badosa stormed back to take the second set before sealing a 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory to advance.
Emma Navarro was another notable name to make an early exit from the French Open on Monday, with the ninth seed getting a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Jesica Bouzas Maneiro.
Elsewhere, Caroline Garcia’s final French Open singles appearance ended in the first round as the 31-year-old former world number four lost 6-4, 6-4 to Bernarda Pera of the United States.
12th seeded Elena Rybakina battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Julia Riera, Barbora Krejcikova baet Tatjana Maria 7-6, 6-3, while 22nd seed Jelena Ostapenko fought back to win 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 against Russian Polina Kudermetova.
