Aston Villa have announced the signing of Amadou Onana from Premier League rivals, Everton, in a £50m deal that sees the 22-year-old become the club’s most expensive signing.
Onana had previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, but eventually chose to sign for Villa who are managed by former Gunners manager Unai Emery.
The Belgium international played every minute of his nation’s recent campaign at the European Championship in Germany which ended with a 1-0 loss to France in the Round of 16.
Onana’s arrival comes after Villa saw Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz leave Villa Park for Juventus.
Villa have also recently seen Ian Maatsen join from Chelsea as they strengthen the squad ahead of a 2024-25 season which will include Champions League football.
