Australia’s impressive performance has seen the team set a new record time of 7:38.08 in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay final.
Mollie O’Callaghan, who already has one gold medal at this Olympics, put the Aussies in the driving seat in the first leg with a time of 1:53.52.
Lani Pallister and then Brianna Throssell’s brilliant effort in the subsequent legs set the pace for Team Australia, touching wall in 1:56.
Then Ariarne Titmus took over the final leg and swam with a time of 1:52.95, setting an Olympic record for Team Australia.
“The atmosphere was electric. And I just wanted to absorb all of that,” Brianna Throssell said after the event. She also added that this will be her last participation at the Olympic Games in general.
At the moment, Australia is third on the medal table with 11 gold, six silver and five bronze medals, behind China leading with 13 gold medals and host nation France with 11 gold.
