The Government of St Lucia has declared September 27 as a National Holiday to honour their history-making Olympian, Julien Alfred.
This comes after Alfred made history when she won St. Lucia’s first ever Olympic medal, a gold medal, in the Women’s 100m final. She followed the feat with a silver medal in the Women’s 200m final at the Paris Olympics.
Alfred is expected to return to her home country on September 24 for the first time since her historic feat. A motorcade along the east coast of St Lucia is expected to take place when Alfred arrives.
National school rallies will then be held on the 25th, followed by a visit to the Cicero Primary School on the 26th where a mural will be unveiled and “massive announcements” will be made concerning the Olympian. A national holiday will be held on the 27th along with a free concert.
