Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili dominated the 200m event at the Mike Holloway Pro Classic 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour event held on Saturday morning (Nigerian time) in Gainesville, Florida.

Ofili, 21, clocked a time of 22.36 seconds into a slight headwind (-0.2 m/s) to win the race comfortably. Her training partner, American Candace Hill, who was the 2016 World U20 100m champion, finished second in 22.62 seconds.

Hodge Adaejah of the British Virgin Islands placed third in the race with a time of 22.66 seconds.

This victory marks Ofili’s third sub-22.40 time in the 200m, despite only competing in the event three times, with this race being her first since April.

Having secured her spot in the 200m event at the Paris Olympics, Ofili understands the need to break the 22-second barrier to win a medal at the Games starting later in July.

Earlier on Saturday, Ofili also emerged victorious in the 100m as well, coming from behind to clock 11.07 seconds in a close finish with Hill who, once again, placed second.
