Newly promoted Ikorodu City made it four wins from their last five matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League thanks to a 2-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors in a Match-day 14 encounter at Onikan Stadium.
A goalless first half in Lagos paved way for Ikorodu to finally break the deadlock through Shola Adelani in the 62nd minute, before Ayomide Cole sealed all three points with 15 minutes remaining.
The win pushes Ikorodu City, making their NPFL debut, up to fifth with 21 points, five points off league leaders, Remo Stars, and second-placed Rivers United.
Finidi George’s Rivers United settled for a 1-1 draw with Sunshine Stars in Akure, while Remo Stars got a 2-0 win over 10-man Shooting Stars thanks to goals in each half by Sikiru Alimi and Olamide Adedayo.
Elsewhere, Daniel Amokachi’s Lobi Stars fell to three first-half goals against Rangers in Enugu, Bayelsa United thrashed Niger Tornadoes 4-1 in Yenagoa, while Kwara United and Akwa United won 1-0 against Heartland and Plateau United respectively.
Bendel Insurance remain bottom of the league after losing 2-1 at Nasarawa United while Abia Warriors went three points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a 2-0 win over Katsina United.
