Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa marked his return to the Nigeria Professional Football League with two goals as Kano Pillars claimed a 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars in front of home fans in Kano.
The veteran forward showed his class with goals within five minutes of each half to settle the encounter for the former league champions.
Musa could have ended the match with a hat-trick, but saw a penalty midway through the second half come off the visitor’s post.
The win takes Pillars up to 7th on the league table with seven points after five rounds of matches.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars lost their hold of top spot and their unbeaten start to the season following a 1-0 loss at the hands of Kwara United in Ilorin.
Abdulraheem Shola’s strike early in the second half was enough to seal a first win in the NPFL season for the Afonja Warriors.
Remo Stars fall to third on the league table as a result with 12 points, one point behind new leaders Rivers United who claimed a 2-1 win over Akwa United.
Elsewhere, Enyimba took a little over 12 hours to complete a 3-0 win at home to Katsina United as the match in Aba had to be suspended with about 15 minutes left to play in Aba.
The match suspension was as a result of technical issues with the power unit at the venue, with the Aba Elephants seeing out the win on Monday morning.
