NPFL Hit Ikorodu City with Fine & Stadium Ban After Remo Stars Clash

Ikorodu City FC have been hit with a N3 million fine by the Nigeria Premier Football League’s disciplinary committee following the ugly scenes recorded after the match against Remo Stars which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Fans of Ikorodu City FC invaded the field, with one person said to be a fan of the home side assaulting a Remo Stars FC’s assistant coach, leading to the club being charged in breach of NPFL rules.

The Lagos-based club was found in breach of Rule B13.52, Rule B13.18 and Rule C9 of the Frameworks and Rules of the NPFL.

In summary, Ikorodu City was found in breach of the rules for ‘failing to provide adequate and effective security which resulted in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas and the assault of Remo Stars coach, Sulaimon Kamil’ among other breaches.

As a result, a N1 million fine was handed to the club for poor security arrangement, another N1 million fine for encroachment into the field of play, and a third N1 million fine for failure to ensure proper conduct of the team and its supporters.

Ikorodu City FC will also play their next two home matches at another venue after the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium was closed by the league.
