Former world number one Novak Djokovic has parted company with coach Andy Murray, bringing an end to a six-month partnership that saw the 24-time Grand Slam champion reach the Australian Open semifinal and Miami Open final.
Djokovic and Murray surprised the tennis world in the 2024 off-season when they first announced that they would be teaming up as a team just six months after Murray officially announced his retirement from professional tennis.
However, Djokovic has struggled with injuries throughout the partnership, retiring from the Australian Open at the semifinal stage, then missing this week’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia as he recovers from injury.
The 37-year-old Serbian has confirmed he would return to action in Geneva for a final Roland Garros warm-up, but it will be the first tournament without Murray at his side.
“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over last six months on & off the court,” Djokovic wrote in a social media post on Tuesday. “Really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.”
